Kingston is famed for its extensive range of shops, markets and services. A mecca for shoppers with over 500 stores including John Lewis and Bentalls department stores, you’ll find most brands here.
The larger retail areas, like Eden Walk Shopping Centre, Clarence Street and The Bentall Centre combine well with smaller specialists, including the Ancient Market Place for fresh vegetables, fruit and fish. Kingston has managed to preserve its small town feel, with unique and interesting side streets of niche retailers and well-established late night shopping.

Clarence Street is the pedestrianised heart of Kingston. With John Lewis at its river end, it includes a huge choice of fashion shops to suit all tastes and pockets, including Top Shop, Monsoon, Next, Gap and River Island.
Located on Clarence Street, The Bentall Centre has come a long way since it opened over 17 years ago. Today the Centre contains over 80 shops and attracts over fourteen million visitors a year. And it just keeps getting better; with new stores, more services and facilities including a full health club.
Shop at top fashion and lifestyle brands such as Apple, HMV, Waterstones, H&M, New Look, Zara, Hollister, Timberland, Superdry and Mothercare. View the Centre Guide on screen here.
With a spectacular atrium higher than the nave of Westminster Abbey and the Aston Webb facade, inspired by Wren's design for Hampton Court, the building is as impressive as the shopping.
Inside, the Centre is beautifully designed with perforated white metalwork containing some 2,000 fibre optic lights. At night, it's just like shopping under the stars! This award winning design helps create the perfect atmosphere for shopping.

The gateway to Old London Road is marked by Kingston’s famous falling over phone boxes (officially named ‘Out of Order’ by artist David Mach). If you venture behind this sculpture, you’ll find an eclectic mix of unusual and interesting shops.
Kingston Antiques Centre is home to 90 dealers on two floors selling a huge variety of items— both small and large. For contemporary goods with a retro feel, visit No 37. Recently featured on BBC’s Mary Queen of Shops, this store has undergone a radical makeover.
Other hidden gems include the town centre’s only tattoo parlour, a fabulous little Thai restaurant and The Fighting Cocks— an alternative music and comedy venue which has hosted comics Bill Bailey and Robin Williams amongst others.

The Ancient Market Place has a rich history, which has contributed to the diverse buildings surrounding the Ancient Market and Market House. This area is now renowned for high end beauty retailers such as The White Company, Space. NK, L’Occitane, Jo Malone and Molton Brown. It is also home to a number of fashion boutiques including Escape, East, Jack Wills and Kew.
In the centre of the Ancient Market Place is the Market House, which has been a prominent feature in Kingston since the 19th century. Today the Market House is used as an exhibition gallery with local artists displaying their work and it is home to the Tourist Information Centre. The Tourist Information Centre allows visitors to top up their oyster card, book National Express tickets and buy London and Kingston Souvenirs. Kingston University also operate an Art Work Shop inside the Market House, which displays current and alumni students work.

Kingston’s Ancient Market Place has been home to a market for over 800 years. Today the traders are open 6 days a week, Monday to Saturday from 9am - 5pm (half day on Wednesday), selling fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, flowers, and fancy dress costumes, plus much much more.
The Ancient Market Place is the usual home for visiting markets. Each year there are French, German, Italian and even Moroccan markets. Keep an eye on the Kingstonfirst calendar to find out what’s coming soon.
Over in the Cattle Market (off Fairfield North), there’s a Monday Morning Market. Over 50 traders visit weekly and sell their wares from 9am to 1.30pm . You’ll be able to pick up all kinds of everything— including fashion items, food, plants and tools.
