Pirates of the Past

Over a thousand years ago, Vikings ruled the seas... and half of Britain too. Learn about the Vikings’ obsession with treasure and make your own hoard of valuables to raid and take home with you.

Medieval Manuscript Mayhem

In 1200 AD, Kingston was granted a charter by the medieval King John, but documents and writing were the domain of the rich, the powerful and the lowly monks who spent their lives copying out texts. Come and learn why such painstaking time and effort was taken over the presentation of manuscripts, how creating them could break the bank and what they were used for. Design your own illuminated letters and use tools of the trade to bring them into glorious, colourful focus.

People in the Second World War didn’t waste anything; they recycled and made do with what they had. This went for clothes, shoes and even things for around the house. At Kingston Museum, you can learn how to make something great for your bedroom, 1940s style, and become the envy of all your friends with your fully personalised decoration.
