GLASS WORKS - AN EXHIBITION OF STAINED GLASS ART

The Market House, Market Plce, Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey KT1 1JS
September 4th – 28th 2010

11am – 6pm with demonstrations daily at 1pm

Local artist Simone Kay is very pleased to announce that she will be exhibiting many of

her works and demonstrating the traditional, medieval craft at an exciting show to be held

at the Market House throughout September.

Simone opened her studio in Hawks Road in 1997 and has made an extraordinary number

of windows and panels since then, many of which may be very familiar. St. Ann’s church

in Kingston Hill, St. Paul’s in Hook, Bonner Hill Book of Remembrance chapel and the

Mayor’s Parlour at Kingston’s Guildhall can all boast at least one of her pieces.

Literally hundreds of front doors in and around the borough contain originals by Simone

Kay, but her work has also travelled as far a field as Norway, Pakistan and Venezuela.

Simone has been teaching the craft for 25 years and will be giving short demonstrations of

the three basic techniques of stained glass work; leading, appliqué and copper-foiling. Come

and find out what a lathekin is!

She involves her students in a group project each year and the culmination of one of these, a

wishing well with a stained glass roof, will be on display. Also on show will be many of her

rarely seen working drawings and paintings which offer a unique insight into the process.

ROOM ON THE BROOM

A spellbinding adventure from the creators of the international hit stage show The Gruffalo. The perfect way to end the summers holidays for everyone ages 3+.

How the cat purred and how the witch grinned, as they sat on their broomstick and flew through the wind...

The witch and her cat are flying happily along on their broomstick - until a mighty wind blasts her hat, bow and wand away into the night!

All is not lost however, as they meet some fun new friends who help retrieve the witch's lost things.

A daft dog, a bizarre bird and a friendly frog; one after the other, they all hop on the broom for a ride... but its not meant for five and - CRACK - the brooms snaps in two!

When a hungry dragon appears, who will save the poor witch? and will there ever be room on the broom for everyone?
