What is Time to Change Kingston?
Time to Change is a growing social movement working to change the way we all think and act about mental health problems. Statistically, 1 in 4 of us will fight a mental health problem in any given year. It’s hard enough to experience mental health problems, without having to face the judgement, shame and isolation that often surrounds them. That’s why we want to end mental health discrimination.
Kingston has been selected as one of eight areas to tackle mental health stigma locally after winning a bid to become one of 2019’s Time to Change Hubs. The hub will be led by local champions working jointly with Kingston Council as Time to Change Hub host, Healthwatch Kingston as the Time to Change Hub coordinator, Mind in Kingston, Kingston First and over 20 other local organisations from the voluntary sector, the health service and businesses.
What is the Time to Change Employer Pledge?
The Time to Change Employer Pledge signals your commitment to changing how you think and act about mental health in the workplace and make sure that employees who are facing these problems feel supported.
By signing the Pledge you will join a growing movement of more than 450 employers in England across all sectors from FTSE 100 companies and leading retailers to Government departments and local authorities.
How does the Employer Pledge work?
Time to Change will work with you to develop an action plan to get your employees talking about mental health. This could include actions such as running events for World Mental Health Day, supporting the Time to Change Kingston hub and local initiatives, and training line managers so they feel comfortable having conversations about mental health with their line reports.
Once your action plan has been finalised, Time to Change will send you a pledge board that a senior leader can sign in front of your employees to mark your commitment.
Since signing the Time to Change Employer Pledge:
- 95% said it had a positive impact on their organisation
- 80% of organisations agreed that it had helped to raise awareness of mental health amongst staff
- 50% reported a rise in staff disclosure of mental health problems, which helps to intervene early and prevent long term sickness
